For our Silver Award Project we want to find ways to save the bees.
Our troop crest is the Bee – we chose a bee because bees work together to complete different tasks and bees are very important parts of our world. We wanted to share with our community the importance of bees in our environment and what could happen if bees were to go extinct. We learned that bees are dying because of pesticides and lack of food sources. We want to bring awareness to our community about the importance of bees. Our project is going to share about the importance of bees and why people should plant pollinator friendly plants in their gardens.
Our project is important because without bees plants won’t get pollinated and we won’t have food to eat. A lot of trees and plants are getting dug up because areas are getting developed for houses. We want to share how important it is when planting gardens to plant pollinator friendly flowers. We also want to share that bees are not scary and that they play an important role in our environment.
Our target audience is both adults and kids. We will teach adults that is is important to plant native plants that attract bees and other pollinators.
We will teach kids that bees aren’t scary, they are very helpful and we should provide food sources for them. We are going to create informational posters and brochures to hand out to people, we are going to make a coloring book for kids that will teach them about the importance of bees and we are going to make pollinator seed paper to give out so people will have a way to start a pollinator-friendly garden.
A root cause of the issue is that people don’t think about the importance of planting plants that attract pollinators. If there aren’t enough plants to attract pollinators like bees they won’t have food and they will die off. There won’t be any insects to pollinate our food sources and this could be a big problem for us in the future. A lot of our town is being developed and areas that once had plants are now home to houses. We want to inform people that when planning gardens at their houses they should choose pollinator-friendly plants to attract pollinators like bees. These gardens will provide food sources for pollinators.
Our team’s project idea is to bring awareness to our town about the importance of Bees. We are going to Bee The Change in Bradenton. As part of our project e are going to create materials – posters, a coloring book, a website http://beethechangebradenton.com that will educate people about the importance of bees and why people should plant bee-friendly seeds.
We are going to make seed paper that has Florida-friendly seeds that we can hand out to people can start a bee friendly garden. The seed paper will have an informational card that tells people about our project.
