My leadership role was to conduct research about bees, and their importance. I did a lot of the research and made posters and a slide deck that we shared with people so they could learn the importance of bees. I researched the types of flowers and plants that the bees are attracted to. I shared this information on a poster with the people at the plant sale at the botanical gardens and shared the slide deck with our school’s 7th grade life science teachers and they used this information with their students. The seventh graders used the information in our slide deck to make seed paper that they could take home and plant for their own pollinator gardens. I helped update the website with information about our project.
I discovered that I need to create a schedule for myself in order to be successful when doing a bigger project. I had to create a schedule with times and list of things I needed to get done for this project. For example I had specific times for different parts of the project, so at a certain time I would research the type of flowers, and at another time I would make a poster board.
I gained time management skills and communication skills. I had to create a schedule for myself to be successful and get my part of the project done on time. I gained communication skills by sharing our project with our community. I had to share information that we collected for our project at the botanical gardens of Palma Sola.
If I could start over and change my project I would contact and meet up with more bee professionals. I would do this so I could perfect my research and have answers to more difficult questions people may ask. By talking to a professional in person I myself could ask questions and clarify any information I wasn’t sure or aware of.
